Becky Parker

After a physics degree and research at the University of Chicago, Becky taught in a variety of schools and was Senior Lecturer in physics at the University of Kent. She still teaches in school. Becky was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2008 and received Honorary Fellowship of the Institute of Physics in 2014. She is Visiting Professor, School of Physics and Astronomy, Queen Mary University of London. In the summer of 2016 she was awarded the Kavli Education Medal from the Royal Society.
She is frequently seen at the side of reservoirs supporting her daughter who sails. She loves music and plays the bassoon.

Steve Greenwood

Steve Greenwood

Steve has had a long career in management running large scale operations in the UK and across Europe. Until recently he was the Chair of Governors at a primary school in Essex, and has spent a number of years actively involved in junior and youth sailing in the UK at local, regional and national level.

Laura Thomas

Laura Thomas

A graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Laura completed an MPhys in Astrophysics before going on to work in outreach in Higher Education. Her work includes resource development, classroom activities for students aged 5-18 and she regularly leads continuing professional development sessions for primary and secondary teachers. Laura is a keen cyclist and recently took part in her first triathlon.

Mike Grocott

Mike Grocott

Mike graduated from Exeter University and entered teaching after a career in the Royal Navy. Mike was the Physics AST in Cornwall, started the Callington Space Centre and more recently was the founding Principal of Space Studio Banbury, Mike has been nominated for the Arthur Clarke award for Space education three times, successfully winning it in 2016. Mike also works for National Space Academy as a lead educator, alongside working for European Space Education Resource Office.

Lizzie Rushton

Dr Lizzie Rushton

Lizzie has degrees in Music (King’s College, London) and Geography (Oxford Brookes University) and completed her Masters degree in Environmental History and her PhD in Geography at the University of Nottingham. A qualified teacher, she has taught Geography to undergraduates and students aged 11-18. Until 2016, Lizzie was Director of Research in a secondary school. Lizzie loves exploring Northumberland and running with her springer spaniel, Ginny.

Helena Benthall

Helena Benthall

Helena is a student, teacher-scientist and freelance show producer. Whilst studying Chemistry at Imperial College London as an undergraduate she is working as a Project Consultant at The Institute of Research in Schools. Before university, she was employed by a private school in London where she taught maths from reception to further maths, was a chemistry tutor and managed the extra curricular music programme. She now tutors science and maths to students of all ages.

Outside science, she is Varsity Vocal’s UK Associate Producer running the International Championships for Collegiate A Cappella across the UK.
